When it comes to protecting your campsite, gear, or perimeter, Fith Ops trip alarms are a reliable and effective solution. But if you’re new to using perimeter trip alarms, you might be wondering: Which adapter should I get? Choosing the right adapter is key to making sure your alarm system functions safely and effectively for your scenario. In this guide, we’ll break down the different Fith Ops adapter options and help you decide which one is right for your setup.
Fith Ops adapters are accessories that allow you to customize your trip alarm based on the type of signal you want to deploy—whether that’s a loud noise, a quick pop, or a visual flash. All Fith Ops alarms are designed to be used with our perimeter trip alarms with non lethal blanks or power loads.
Here’s a breakdown of each adapter Fith Ops offers, along with common use cases:
This is one of the most popular adapters for both Gen3 and Gen4 trip alarms. It allows you to use .22 caliber power loads—commonly found in hardware stores under names like Ramset or CCI. These power loads are designed for use in construction tools but work perfectly for generating a loud bang (up to 130 dB) when used in your trip alarm.
Best for: Loud perimeter alerts, deterring wildlife, general campsite security, and urban areas.
Note: Only compatible with the round-sided Gen3 and all Gen4 models. Not compatible with early square-bodied Gen3 units.
The 308 adapter is designed for Gen3 alarms and allows you to use military-style 7.62x51 NATO blanks (.308). These rounds create a sharp, high-volume noise—around 127 dB—and are excellent for wide-area alerts.
Best for: High-volume deterrent scenarios, experienced users familiar with blank rounds.
Note: Only compatible with Gen3 trip alarms.
If you're looking for something more subtle, the 209 adapter is your go-to. It uses small shotgun primers to produce a short, crisp pop—less intense than a blank round but still enough to alert you to a trip. This is the quietest of all adapters and works well in close-quarters or low-noise areas.
Best for: Lightweight packs, minimal noise alerts, urban setups, or indoor setups.
Note: Compatible with Gen4 “Rescue/Trip” alarm and Gen3 perimeter trip alarms.
This unique Gen4 accessory produces both a flash and a sound, making it ideal for visibility in low-light situations. It’s not a blank round or a primer—it’s an add-on module that integrates seamlessly with your Gen4 device, screwing up onto the bottom of the device.
Best for: Nighttime visibility, low-visibility environments, signaling, indoor setups, and urban setups.
Note: Compatible only with Gen4.
If you’re just getting started with Fith Ops trip alarms, here’s a simple decision-making guide:
Your Goal | Recommended Adapter |
---|---|
Loud, high-impact alert | .22 or 308 |
Quieter, more discreet alert, indoor use | 209 Primer |
Indoor use, urban area | Flashing Sight & Sound (Gen4 only) |
Versatile, all-purpose use, indoor use, HI or AK | .22 |
For most first-time buyers, the .22 Power-Load Adapter is the best starting point. It’s easy to use, widely compatible with newer Gen3 and Gen4 alarms, and uses blanks that can often be found locally at hardware stores.
It’s important to match your adapter to the correct generation of trip alarm.
Gen3 perimeter trip alarms, are a 12g base and have a slide in breach with a detent on the bottom to hold in the blanks and adapters. These work with .22, 209 and 308 adapters, but not the Sight & Sound adapter.
Gen4 (Rescue/Trip) alarms are the latest design. These 12g trip alarms have a circle load collar the screws up onto the device, securing the blank or adapter. These are compatible with .22, 209, and Sight & Sound adapters, but not the 308 adapter.
If you’re unsure which version you have, look for the rounded design for the newer generations and then look at the bottom to see how you load the device, either slide it in (Gen3) or screw it on (Gen4).
All Fith Ops adapters are manufactured in the USA with high-quality stainless steel or aluminum. The system is intended to be used with legally obtained blanks or primers and should never be loaded with live ammunition. Always follow local laws, handle with care, and use these products responsibly in outdoor environments.
Fith Ops makes it easy to build a perimeter alarm system that fits your lifestyle—whether you’re camping in bear country, storing gear in a remote location, or setting up a backwoods basecamp. By choosing the right adapter, you can control how your alarm responds to movement and tailor your alerts to the environment.
