Update on my previous review (same date)

On a shot shell hull, reloaded with Winchester primer (seated properly), it took two hits to make it fire. Not good guys! Not good at all. The spring Fith is using is .028" diameter wire, I found a spring in my junk pile made from .050" wire, same number of turns and OD. Had to cut it to a shorter length to account for "solid coil" length so it would still fully ****, the a bit shorter still so I could **** it. Still, I had to make a cocking tool to pull it back, resembles a miniature hay hook. Thr .050 spring is way too strong to **** comfortably, but there's no way it will cause a misfire like the stock spring. Now some suggestions to FithOps: The current design has the cocking hold notch too close to the full **** hole - oh, it works, but it could be better! Make a more pronounced (deeper cut) "side push hold open groove in the firing pin shaft, and a hair closer to the firing pin end. This will make the pulled shaft push off to the side more securely to stay cocked whilst inserting the hair clip - then to arm simply push shaft to center and it drop in a few thou' and center ready to go. Current design has the 209 primer version with a harder hitting more reliable design than the shot shell version. This is due to the same spring stock being used for both, however, the 209 has a shorter spring (all else being equal, a shorter length increases spring rate) and a longer travel (which increases inertia and force). Also consider going to a thicker spring wire, at least on the shot shell version, greater than .028" (and way smaller than the .050" stuff I'm testing.

Weak Spring

Bear got into my pond, tore the liner, so I finally got a chance to try this out using "Kent ProTrial field blanks", 12 ga. Bear hit the line, small shallow dent in primer. Set it again, this time "unwinding" key ring at end a bit to keep it from interfering with the firing pin. Bear did it again, slightly deeper, but still shallow indentation on the primer, no bang for my bucks. Next I'll test just a 209 primer that I'll reload, if that works I'll report back. For critical use, as my experience mirrors others with fail to fires, might be a good idea to test this before relying on it as the spring appears to be marginal and won't set off hard primers. I'll update if I can get it to work. 2 stars for nicely machined and anodized.
